Dr. Tracey Reed was born and raised in Pittsburgh and attended Beltzhoover Elementary School. At Beltzhoover, there was no question about Black children’s abilities, giftedness, and capacity to learn hard things. Tracey’s earliest school experience taught her that great school is possible for Black children. Pursuing excellence in schooling for Black children has been a driving force in Tracey’s life and career.

As a high school English teacher, a faculty member in a college of education, manager of an office for child protection, and currently a program officer for a foundation, Tracey has led with a desire to provide high-quality educational experiences to all children, especially those who do not regularly experience them.

Tracey was elected as the District 5 Director for the PPS Board in 2021, where she currently serves as Second Vice President. During Tracey’s tenure on the board, she has been committed to improved fiscal oversight and transparency, equitable and high-quality schooling, and innovation. Tracey is running for a second term on the PPS Board to continue this important work.
